The Venusian front was quiet once more. The enemy had retreated, and the fleet was regrouping. Captain Elara Vance stood on the observation deck, watching the clouds churn below.

"Command, this is Vance. The sector is secure."

"Copy, Vance. We're beginning repairs. You've earned some rest."

She looked at the ships around her-some damaged, some lost, but all still fighting. The cost of victory was never easy.

"What are you thinking?" her wingman asked, joining her.

"I'm thinking about all the ships we lost," she said. "All the pilots."

"They knew the risks."

"Doesn't make it easier."

The clouds swirled below, hiding the wreckage of the battle. The Venusian front had claimed many, but it had also forged them into a stronger fleet.

"We'll rebuild," her wingman said. "And we'll come back stronger."

Elara nodded. "We will."

She turned from the window, ready to face the next challenge. The war was far from over, but they had survived.

She would keep fighting, keep protecting, keep honoring the fallen. And she would never let their sacrifice be in vain. The clouds of Venus would not claim her spirit-they would only strengthen her resolve.

She walked toward the hangar, toward her fighter, toward the next battle. The war would continue, but she would face it with the same courage and determination that had carried her through the darkest days. The End.

The extraction point was compromised. Major Elena Vasquez saw the enemy vehicles before her team did-three trucks, dozens of soldiers, their weapons ready.

"Contact!" she shouted. "Take cover!"

The team scattered, finding rocks, trees, anything for cover. Bullets cracked past, grenades exploded, the enemy pressed forward.

"Command, Razor Lead! Extraction point is hot! Request immediate support!"

Static. Then: "Razor Lead, support is ten minutes out. Hold your position."

Ten minutes. Elena looked at her team, at the enemy advancing, at the odds.

"Chen, suppress left. Miller, right. I'll take center. We hold until support arrives."

They fired, the enemy falling, more taking their place. Elena's rifle was hot, her ears ringing, her heart pounding.

"Reloading!" she shouted.

Chen covered her, his rifle chattering. Elena slammed in a fresh magazine, raised her rifle, kept firing.

"Five minutes!" Chen shouted.

The enemy pressed forward, their numbers overwhelming. Elena's team was running low on ammo, their positions compromised.

"Fix bayonets!" Elena shouted.

The team obeyed, cold steel in the morning light. The enemy paused, seeing the Americans ready to fight to the death.

Then the helicopters came.

Gunfire rained down from the sky, the enemy scattering, the Americans running for the ropes. Elena climbed aboard, reached down, pulled Chen up. The others followed, the helicopter lifting, the ground falling away.

Below, the enemy shook their fists at the sky.

Elena slumped against the bulkhead, her heart pounding, her hands shaking. Chen sat beside her, his face pale.

"We made it," he said.

Elena nodded. "We made it."

The helicopter flew toward home, toward safety, toward whatever came next. The firefight was over. But the war wasn't.

And Elena Vasquez was still standing.
